INGRAM — Burnet’s Blair
Gililland tossed a one-hitter
and struck out seven
batters, and the Lady
Bulldogs capitalized on a
four-run burst in the second
inning to top Kerrville, 4-2,
in Texas District 26 Major
Division All-Star
championship softball
action Thursday at the
Ingram Little League fields.
Gililland’s showing offset an
impressive night on the
mound by Kerrville’s
Samantha Castaneda, who
gave up just four hits over
five innings and finished
with eight strikeouts.
All of Burnet’s runs came in
the second frame.
McKenzie Davis lifted an
RBI single into right field to
get the Lady Bulldogs on
the board, and Tatym
Etheridge followed with a
three-run inside-the-park
home run down the left field
line.
Gililland carried a no-hitter
into the top of the sixth
inning before giving up an
RBI single to Kerrville’s
Olivia Ortiz, and Ortiz later
scored from third on a
passed ball to cut the All-
Star’s deficit to 4-2, but
Kerrville couldn’t pull any
closer.
